PhD Candidate to Pole Dancing Contortionist

From dance to yoga to contortion, I have spent my lifetime working on flexibility. I have learned the value of good instruction, proper technique, and healthy, consistent habits. I hope to pass on my knowledge so that others can develop strong limber bodies. I am a certified Flexibility Flow trainer through XPERT and am constantly learning more about anatomy and physiology to improve my classes and my own practice. Since 2020 I have increased my flexibility limits and awareness by practicing contortion under various world class coaches and contortionists.

My pole journey began when I embarked on my PhD in the Netherlands in October 2018. The university offered 'Pole Fitness' classes that were free for employees. (PhD students count as employees here!) The pandemic caused the university gym to close so I broke from the 'pole fitness' bubble and learned to slink and slide at home. I now teach beginner, intermediate, advanced, and heels-choreo weekly to my students and Studio Nienke Enschede. I have competed and performed pole art, pole sport, pole heels and contortion. I have two first place finishes, two second place finishes, and a bronze. I did end up earning my PhD as well – I am a Doctor of Philosophy of Technology.

Additionally, I am a certified aerial hoop instructor through SOAR.
